Details
Caring 4 U provide a network of approved and high quality carers to look after elderly and disabled people in their homes. They have notable clients such as Essex County Council and the Alzheimers Association as well as many others. Their previous website was somewhat lack lustre in both it's design and usability.
The site needed to be welcoming and friendly as well as being as accessible and usable as possible. The visitors to the site are more likely to have a disability such as visual impairment due to the age range of the clients.
The site was built using valid, semantic XHTML & CSS and particular care was taken to ensure that it was accessible to users with screen readers or with visual impairment. Some basic PHP was applied to allow a template system to be created using includes. This allowed other developers within the team to update the site easier and more effectively.
The content for the pages was never finalised during my time on the site so it was finished and made live by another developer in the online team.
What I did
- Slicing a Photoshop design mock-up into web friendly images
- Creating semantic and valid XHTML to convey the site information
- Writing CSS to display the site design
- Ensuring the site is accessible and also renders in older browsers
- Using PHP to create a basic template system
