Details
The site design was completely designed in Photoshop by hand, and needed to focus highly on being original but also easy to navigate and use. Highslide pop-up boxes are used as an accessible means of displaying the content as well as a mixture of jQuery to provide a list of clients in a quirky, original but usable fashion.
Whilst the design looks complicated and pleasing to the eye, there is a solid layer of XHTML & CSS underneath the design to allow it to be easily accessed by search engines, which a completely Flash website has issues with.
Due to a complex amount of transparency involved, IE6 has issues rendering the site correctly. An IE PNG fix was used to get round this problem and also the 'Commercial Work' pop-up was degraded in quality for IE6, with the removal of the shadow boxes. However an adequate experience was still provided for users of this antiquated browser.
What I did
- Discussing the best way to approach the new site integrating Flash and HTML
- Reviewing the site templates and advising on improvements
- Seperating the created site templates into multiple images
- Creating semantic XHTML markup & CSS to design the pages
- Using jQuery to add effects to the page, such as a fading navigation.
- Implementing Highslide and the IE6 PNG fix
- Collecting feedback from the client and adjusting the design accordingly
