Scarlletta is the artist name of Laura Duckworth, who contacted me to create an online presence for her. I met with the client and discussed the requirements and went away to create the design, code and integrate with Wordpress.
I spent a lot of time trying different fonts and colours to convey a girlish theme whilst remaining usable and professional. Once the design was signed off I converted the design into a semanticly rich XHTML document and then used CSS to bring the design to life.
Although the decision was made to avoid Flash (due to dynamic content being required) the client still required some kind of movement in the site so I implemented the jQuery library and set various page elements to fly in from different directions on page load.
Wordpress was the choice for content management largely due to it’s ease of use in the admin area but also because it is free and has hundreds of quality plugins. I converted the Front-end code into a working theme and added plugins where required to allow the site to meet the client needs.
What I did
- Creating the full site design in Photoshop based on a grid system
- Creating semantic and valid HTML to convey the site information
- Writing CSS to display the site design
- Ensuring the site is accessible and also renders in older browsers
- Transferring the design into a Wordpress template
- Setting up Wordpress backend for client use
- Adding plugins to meet requirements
