IPFencing.co.uk
IP Fencing is an independent fencing company that operates locally to me. With the same website for almost 4 years it was time to throw out the old look and bring something in that looked cleaner and more professional.
About the site
This was a trickier website for me to construct, purely because the client had no idea of how they wanted the new website to look, only that they wanted an updated version.
It's a simple yet clean & professional look, and the graphics were created using Photoshop CS2. Once I had a basic design I could set about laying out the XHTML & CSS and tweaking the layout as I progressed.
Due to there not being the need for a huge amount of content I settled on a template that was quick to navigate and provided the vital content (fencing examples) on the homepage. As with all my designs - I went to great lengths to ensure this was a cross-browser compatible site, made more vital by the likelihood of such a varied group of visitors.
My responsibilities
This site was a single construction project, including the design concept & content:
- Reviewing the existing site, taking what content was useful
- Planning and designing a brand new site template to fit with the business theme
- Creating semantic XHTML markup & CSS to design the pages
- Using PHP to organise the site pages into templates, allowing easy updates
- Writing additional page content to convey a professional image
- Collecting feedback from the client and adjusting the design accordingly
- Hosting the site on a dedicated Linux server
